Getting Past the Desktop

I'm a regular listener of BusinessWeek's Technology & You podcast, and I have to admit to being somewhat annoyed initially by the premise of the current episode. It's about BumpTop; a shell that replaces the PC Desktop with a 3D environment. I guess I really didn't want to admit that the Desktop has played out. But it's true. And sure enough, I came across affirmation within a couple of days from Steven Frank and Brent Simmons (both via Daring Fireball).

So now I'm eagerly anticipating the next big change in approach to computer UI design. I'm partial to G-Speak.
